What is this doc?
This doc is meant to be a fun way to play the board game without the physical game. Take this version of the game on vacation to save space, or play with friends and family asynchronously! How do I use this doc?
If you've played Codenames before, this will hopefully look familiar. Otherwise, take a look at the . Most of your activity will be in the "Play the Game" section. Here the spymaster will give clues, teams can touch clues, and each player's moves or actions will be recorded. Use the 👇button to touch a card when it's your turn!
To play, you'll need to create teams first. Use the page to join the game and create teams.
Best practices
There are a few things to keep in mind using this doc!
1. Hide what you don't need to see
Since this Coda doc relies heavily on formulas and buttons, keep everything you can hidden or out of the way in order to avoid it breaking.
, , and can all stay hidden under the "Under the Hood" folder. Don't make changes to these sections or allow others to. 2. Lock your doc for easy control
Coda allows you to lock portions or all of your doc to certain levels of interaction. I recommend setting your doc permissions to "Interact only" and only making yourself an admin.
3. You have the option to table talk in this doc, but feel free to use Slack or another chat app instead if you prefer!
Using table cells for your team's chat might get messy. My feelings won't be hurt if you play on a Zoom call instead.
I want to use this doc to play Codenames with my friends. How do I do that?
To use this doc, make a copy of your own! Then feel free to add to or customize the word bank. You'll need to share your version of the doc with anyone you want to be able to join.
Can I cheat at Codanames?
Yes, but that would be mean.
